8/31-9/4 Blog Post

Thank you to everyone who came and scooped ice cream at the Ice Cream Social.  It was a great turnout!

Couple of things I have noticed walking through classes the first week and a half.  There is a lot of partner sharing and student discussion going on!  We need to keep this up all year long.  I know there was some of this last year but really there has already been a noticeable difference this year when I come around.  Thanks for taking the PD from 8/19 and really running with it.

Also love seeing everyone outside their doors in the morning greeting students.  It makes a difference for our kids!

New Process for Submitting Tickets- Kim and Jill are now able to submit tickets!  If you are a TK-2 teacher you will send ticket requests to Kim.  If you are a grade 3-5 teacher you will send it to Jill.  Feel free to copy me on a ticket if you think it is something I need to know about.  An example might be none of the chromebooks are working.  You would send that to me and Jill so I am in the loop.  If it is something like you can't connect to your printer I do not need to be copied on that.  If the internet is down please send that to me directly so I can get Bryan on it.  If you have questions let me know but otherwise ticket request should be going to them starting on Monday.

CELDT Schedule-  Please see the CELDT schedule below.  Thank you Robin Santos for your hard work on this!  Since we are having people other than our teachers here testing them I am not sure exactly how this will work as far as if they come and get the student or they call your room but I will let you know.  Where they go for testing is on the doc below.  There will still be some follow up testing after this.

Yard Duty Schedule- There was some confusion (and rightfully so) about where some of the positions were.  Here is the schedule again let me know if you are still not sure where to go.  Also if something is not correct on there please let me know.

Technology PD Coming Up- TechFest is on September 26th down in Natomas.  It costs $75 and I would be happy to send any teacher that would like to go.  Team THINK is going to have THINKFest again this year and it will be help at Stoneridge.  That one is free and will be on November 7th.  Just wanted to get you guys the dates so you have them.  Both of this will be awesome and I will be at both.  I highly encourage you to try and make one of these.  Here is more info on TechFest http://capcue.weebly.com/techfest-2015.html

Interesting Articles I Read this Week:

Building Blocks of a Good Pre-K Guess what, they should play!

Great School Culture: It Starts with the Principal (Education Week) Opinion piece from a teacher about school culture.  Not sure I agree as I believe school culture comes from everyone but hey, what do I know.

Teacher Pipeline in Need of Repair (Sacramento Bee)
Teacher Shortage or Teacher Pipeline Problem? (NPR Ed)
Some parts of the state (Oakland, Fresno) are having a crazy problem trying to get teachers and some states are super short teachers (look up the Kansas and Oklahoma teacher shortages).  This is something I am passionate about.  Until teachers are fairly compensated, appreciated and respected by the public this is always going to be a problem.

Thanks for all you do.  Have a great weekend!

  1. "Guiding children to manage themselves" = giving kids the tools to do life. Kids learn so much through play! Let them play! Love it!
