Interesting Articles I Have Read
Why Teach Spelling- Thank you Christi for sharing. This is a long article but gives clear reasons why it is important to teach spelling and what spelling instruction should actually look like. Patterns are way more important than memorizing random words.
"A meta-analysis conducted by Graham and Hebert (2010) summarizing the effects of instructional practices in writing on reading outcomes found that teaching spelling had a strong effect on reading fluency among students in grades one to seven (effect size = 0.79)"
How to Help Principals Do a Better Job? Train Their Bosses- The Hechinger Report "Half of all principals quit during their third year, and districts nationwide are trying to figure out how to better support principals and improve their effectiveness."
Nearpod- This website offers some amazing Virtual Field Trips.
Homework vs No Homework Is the Wrong Question- Edutopia "Ideally, we want children to understand that they are always learners. In school, we refer to them as "students" but outside of school, as children, they are still learners. So it makes no sense to even advertise a "no homework" policy in a school. It sends the wrong message. The policy should be, No time-wasting, rote, repetitive tasks will be assigned."
